Okay, we signed the offer. No conditions, just take the suite 'as is'.

Here is the process for securing the suite as of today:

  1. Sign the offer [Done]
  2. Submit financials [Done]
  3. Credit check [In progress]
  4. Offer accepted or rejected

    • If offer rejected, go back to step 1
    • If offer accepted go to step 5

  5. Formal lease available for review
  6. Lease signed
  7. Lease accepted by Building Owner
  8. Move in

Our laywer also advised us that Incorporating before we sign the lease is very, very important, so we are going to fast-track that as well.

You know, there's a lot of work in this business that has nothing to do with our actual business.
We finally found our home.

After a month of looking at different offices and wrestling with which one to choose, our Realtor came up with the above offering.

By this time a nuisance, we agreed to haul downtown to look at another office. Peter decided not to join us, as he had to drop off a courtesy car he was using while his windshield was being repaired.

45 minutes later, Terry and I arrived at the office and after looking around for under 2 minutes, we were pretty satisfied with the place. In fact, we liked it so much, we called Pete and arranged for him to view the place the next day.

So, now it's subject to writing up the offer and having it accepted.

In the mean time, we wait.

My sister, Jane, lives in Spain and is most decidedly unhappy on the plain.

Yes, she's a mountain climber, and does so with her companion Alberto. They climb all over the place, and she was good enough to forward these images: one, two, three showing off her ice-climbing skills.

If any of you have done any ice-climbing, you know that it can be somewhat harrowing.

Jane's brave.

Canada Election 2000 Summary

Well, another federal election day has dawned for Canada, and the political face of the nation is getting a nose-job.

While the Alliance and Stockwell (Doris) Day has been fighting a good campaign, I believe Jean Cretien will come out on top once again.

A minority government is certainly a possibility, which I think would be bad for the nation. But it would force the MPs to actually show up for work on a regular basis, especially for those all important confidence votes.

Well, it is the beginning of the day. A mere 10 hours from now, we shall know who our next Prime Minister is.

And, God spare us the lengthy, drawn-out show that has been the American presidential race for the last 3 weeks.

I just got my new Dual Head video card. I got a second monitor to make the card useful and now my desk is very crowded. Picture to come soon.

An update on the business: Things are getting very busy, very quickly. Along with a new employee (the full-time staff count being 3), we have 3 proposals that will be going out in the next week.

The office should finally become a reality around January 1. We'll be looking for a place this week and next with our Realtor, looking for a nice, big space.

Looks like I'm going to be working every Saturday from here to eternity. Sundays, not so much.

Marlas takes some great pictures.

She's yet another person I used to work with who has a site on the net. She used to be a resident of Vancouver, but I got tired of her and shipped her off to Australia.

She now lives in Melbourne, and travels around quite a bit.

Crap!

Just when I thought that the US television networks were actually producing some halfway decent television, the best new show on TV this fall was cancelled.

I found Deadline one night when I was lethargically watching the tube, my mind in park. On came Deadline, and I watched the show with a great deal of interest, very impressed.

Here I am, two weeks later, and the show has been cancelled after 5 episodes!

Well, normally I would never do this, but please sign the petition to get the show back on the air!

Business Goal #324

Okay, we don't really have the budget for this - yet, but that doesn't mean I can't dream.

Of particular interest are the interior shots:This is a very nice toy. I really hope I can fit it into next year's budget.

Wow, the US Elections have come down to the fight for Florida. As of just now, CNN reports a margin of 327 votes.

I decided to do a little math, and figure out what that means.

All told, the 2000 Elections gathered about 100,683,409 votes (not counting the absentee ballots, many of which have not arrived).

If you take that number and compare it to the distance to the moon, the number of votes that are currently seperating Gore and Bush would equal 1 inch.

If you compared that amount to the total area of the USA (9,629,091 sq km), the number of votes that are currently seperating Gore and Bush would be 9 square meters. That's about the size of a parking spot.

If you compared it to a kilogram of cheese, the number of votes that are currently seperating Gore and Bush would equal .03 micrograms (invisible to the human eye).

Okay, I made most of those numbers up...but they're close!

The webcam is back, at least temporarily. Although, because of my DSL Router, the image is periodically distorted.

This will continue until I update the firmware, which by all accounts is an onerous process. Something I am not likely to try for a couple of weeks.

So, you may see a distorted me for a while. Don't panic.

My Palm IIIxe looks like it saw the bad side of a gang war. Okay, it's just a crack in the back of the case, but it looks pretty bad. I called Palm Canada (actually a company called Keating Technologies) as instructed by Palm Support to discuss a replacement.

I was ready for a fight. I had heard that having your Palm replaced because of a defect can be as difficult as getting your KlearKote included in the price of your car.

Pleasant suprise, however. They answered almost right away (only about 2 minutes of Celine Dion hold music) and promptly offered a replacement! I have to mail it in, and they'll courier it back.

That was easy!

Holy cow, how could I have possibly forgotten Derek?

penmachine.com : Derek is a writer. A damn fine one at that.
I thought I'd include a list of sites I check out at least every few days. These are in no particular order:

120seconds.com : A great Canadian site for news, articles, that uses a superior Flash interface.

unabashed.com : I used to work with Sam.

inkbase.com : Jason, another person I used to work with.

zeroliveslost.net : Jason and his brother Chris created this site.

ratbastard.org : Don shakes his fist at the world.

sapphireblue.com : Michelle has much to say.

kottke.org : Simple but cool.

praystation.com : Josh Davis is a Flash God with the full meal deal.

bogieland.com/infodesign : Excellent resource for IA.

linesandsplines.com/ : Typography comments by a U of C Berkeley student.

factory512.com : Collection of current site design.

coolhomepages.com : Collection of...well...cool home pages.

Here I am, trying to make my way in the corporate world, where money and cash flow are rules of survival.

In other parts of the world, however, government grants for Penguins falling over backwards are easy to come by.

Jackie Chan is truly amazing.

I went to see "Legend of Drunken Master" last night and was awed by the stunts he performed. In other scenes, I laughed my head off.

I was introduced to Jackie Chan movies a few years ago when a girl I went to high school with was cast in Rumble in the Bronx, filmed here in Vancouver. I went with my friend Derek, who was a Jackie Chan veteran. I quite enjoyed the film, and have seen quite a few of his films since then.

Anyway, if you get an urge to see a good "Kung Fu Fighting" film, see this one. There is some amazing stuff in there.
