People, Places and Things

I've been pretty busy the last few weeks, primarily because my job is at an educational institution and September has a lot of activity.

As a result, I have been unable to do all of the things I'd like to do: meet with people I like, do things I enjoy and go places I'd like to.

As September rolls to a close I'm hoping this changes, because I'd like to go out and do more things in more places with people I like.

I hope they all still like me.

When will it stop?

Another busy day already, I have dealt with more problems today before noon than I usually do in a week. I had a table at a Service Day, giving students an eye on what kind of services they can expect from the Institute.

It's interesting to see how browsers work (the human kind), as they skirt the table you are at, with obvious interest but without the courage to approach and ask a question. Sometime I will say "So, can I tell you about something?" or "What can I answer for ya?". Sometimes, though, I like to sit there, stare directly at them and see how they respond.

And now I have about 30 minutes to collect myself before rushing off into 2 -3 hours of meetings.

Busy.

Just a quick note

I didn't think my days could get quite so busy here, but there was definately a rush today.

Last night's Astronomy class was a lot of fun, especially considering we were in a sub-terranean Planetarium located right on school property. The Planetarium machine (a large, bulbous projector) is suprisingly accurate and versatile for a device that was created in 1963.

We watched as stars, planets, galaxies and other celestial objects slowly made their way across the domed ceiling. It was a lot of fun and I'm already looking forward to next week's session.

I have to take more photos this week, as my darkroom class is also looming and I have a serious lack of material to work from over the last few months. I need to get out there this weekend.

Learning: my drug

Earlier, I mentioned that my job is sometimes characterized (by me, mostly) as being one that is pretty nice to have. One of the perks associated with it is that I get, for the most part, free education.

That might be the best part of working here.

I love to learn and frequently research or sign up for classes on any new subject that catches my fancy. Everything from from learning to draw to piano lessons to speaking in sign language and more. I guess I take on too much sometimes, but learning is my drug.

So, when a colleague pointed out that there is an Astronomy class that introduces students to basics such as identifying planets, stars, constellations and galaxies, discussions on celestial motion concepts and how to make a planisphere (used to locate stars), I thought it sounded pretty cool.

When I found out it would be held in our school's very own Planetarium, I signed up right away.

First class is tonight!

Toys

I really want a large format camera. Like a Toyo or a Cambo or something.

Work and Not

I joke about my job being really cushy and a fun place to work. one that doesn't require a lot of work.

Truth is that the job can be pretty difficult at times, and requires a lot of running around talking to this and that person, making sure some system is running properly, fixing problems no one else knows how to fix (or cares to figure out), and just keeping on top of a lot of things.

What makes this place great is the people I work with and the environment in which I work.

I think I might go for a walk around the duck pond today... or play hoops... maybe with the ducks.

Must go now

Spending too much time fooling around here... must go to work.

Some people make their lunch the day before so they have it ready when they head off to work. I think I need my breakfast done that way.

Maybe a bowl of Corn Flakes with the milk pre-poured and a spoon lounging around, waiting to be used.

Okay... must go to work.

Or...

A maid. Yeah... a maid!

It Begins

It's amazing how tired I am most mornings. I think it might have something to do with the time I stay up to every night.

Last night I went to a photo developing class and realized that I have lost a few rolls of film I took over the summer. I had some Holga shots, but they sucked.

Afterward, I played an online game with a friend of mine until way too late.

Now I have to go to work.

It takes energy to make tea.

I need a butler.

My Regular Readers...

I would like to say thank you for coming back to the site on a consistent basis to check up on the developments in my life.

I like to think that there are people out there that read my blog and think: "Hmm... how interesting", and "Well, he certainly is a brilliant young fellow", or even "My, but I find this site engrossing and pleasant".

It has been noted that my blog has been lacking in frequency for the last few months and I now feel as though I have shortchanged you, gentle reader. So, in penance, I have decided to post everything I am doing for the next several days, regardless of the triviality of the emotion, task or action.

I'll start tomorrow.
