Brain Activity

Derek's Seussian brain-post reminds me of a crazy idea I had a few years ago. I wanted to have a site where people could upload images of what they thought their brain activity looked like. I was inspired by the Mirror Project, where I had uploaded a number of images (1, 2, 3, 4), including this one that was selected by none other than Jason Kottke to be in a gallery titled: Movie auditions for the part of "Serial Killer #1", some unsuccessful.

I secured the domain brainactivity.com (it has since lapsed into the hands of domain resellers), I drew up a site plan, designed some layouts, got some friends to donate brains to get me started (Derek's contribution is seen here) and started working on the admin interface.

That's where it all fell down. I never managed to get all the database functions working, and I got busy with a number of other ideas that pop into my head frequently. You can still see the first draft of the site. Reload the page for all 12 brains.

The image Derek used in his brainy post reminded me of all that. Maybe I should try to get it going again. I've secured another domain that should work, and I already have a few brains to use.

Perhaps if I get Ruby on Rails going, that could be my first application.

Your mirror project links are dysfunctional..

.. and the brain image I most relate to is the one that looks like a squiggled lollipop. Lots of activity, mostly going in circles.

X.
